If you are interested in organizing a community development credit union, the Federation can help. Here's how:
1. We understand that many community groups aspiring to organize a CDCU start on a "bootstrap." Through this site, you can obtain answers to many of your questions at no cost.
2. We recommend that you start with the chapter "To Organize or Not to Organize?" from our organizing manual, which you can download here, and/or request a free organizing packet which contains descriptions and order forms for all of the Federation's resources available to groups considering organizing a CDCU.
3. If you still wish to explore the formation of a CDCU, we advise you to purchase our full manual. The updated edition, Organizing Credit Unions: A Manual, is available at a cost of $95 for non-members and $60 for member organizing groups.
To order a copy of our organizing manual, complete and submit an order form, by clicking here.
Or contact Federation Office Manager Oulga Caesar at: (800) 437-8711 x200 or at ocaesar@cdcu.coop.
4. If you want to go further, here are some options:
-
Become an Organizing Group Associate Member. For a cost of $100 per year you can participate in our technical assistance conference calls and get personal phone consultations from our staff, including review of your application package for a charter at no charge. Associate Membership entitles you to preferred rates to Federation conferences, trainings programs, publications, and other products. Organizing Group Associate members also receive their first year of Policy Membership free once the credit union is chartered.

Interested in "Full Service?" The Federation is also available to provide intensive, on-site technical assistance on a contractual basis, through our network of CDCU consultants. Please contact Pablo DeFilippi, Director of Membership to discuss the type of assistance you're looking for and for consultant availability.
