Join us November 1 in NYC as We Launch "Building a Cooperative City"
(October 25, 2011 – New York, NY) Charles Gould, Director-General, and Dame Pauline Green, President of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) will join local and national leaders at the launch of New York: Building a Cooperative City, a first-ever convening and seminar of New York City cooperatives across sectors. The program, which will be held at the Ford Foundation on November 1, follows by a day the proclamation of 2012 as International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) by U.N. Secretary Ban Ki-Moon.
“We estimate that the lives of more than one million New Yorkers are touched by cooperatives of one or more types,” said Clifford N. Rosenthal, President/CEO of the Federation, which convened the host committee for the event.
New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn will issue a proclamation recognizing the contribution of cooperatives to the life of the city, to be followed by presentations by representatives of credit unions, food, housing, and worker co-ops.
Among the national leaders attending the event are Bill Cheney, CEO of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA); Mary Martha Fortney, CEO of the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS); Charles E. Snyder, President & CEO of the National Consumer Cooperative Bank (NCB).
Co-sponsors of the event include the Council of New York Housing Cooperatives and the National Cooperative Bank, along with the Federation.
There is no charge for the event, but attendance is limited. We are currently near capacity, so if you plan to join us, you must pre-register. We will not be able to accept walk-ins on November 1.
